“Life is here to break your heart” by Jeff Foster

Bandaged Heart by dreamur-gurl

Life is here to break your heart

over and over again -

until you realize

that heartbreak is life too.

Then your heart can no longer be broken,

or fixed, for that matter.

So you learn to live

with an exquisitely fragile heart

permanently broken, permanently aflame,

vulnerable and indestructible too,

and you stand naked in front of life,

moment by moment, breath by breath,

knowing that whatever happens

is totally okay somehow -

even in the midst of this perfect devastation,

which is now a kind of

‘devastating perfection’.

(Even when you forget all this,

which you often do.)

This is freedom

beyond the speaking of it.
