“Water and Earth” by Keith Basar

He was conceived on the highest mountain slopes — where clouds and stone embrace in holy communion. From a single droplet to a milieu of many, he moved gravitationally downward —encountering parched desserts — renewing along the way, always bound by the pull of destiny.

Currents within him swirled to and fro — sometimes facing fierce storms, relentless winds, and man made Goliath’s — all working to deny his voyage.  Incompleteness haunted him, and at times sheer loneliness ravaged him.  In desolation he traveled uncharted trails, tears menacing him along the way.  Yet, time and fate tugged at him — his deepest travails subsided, and an irresistible life force drew him ever closer to her…

She was imagined from currents of creative heat, multiplicities of merging energies, expressions of the Holy — she was Davar: “the real thing.”   Fashioned by the sacred feminine, her presence revealed vibrant colors and erotic textures — saturated in goodness and splendor.  Her essence, hewn by eons of wind and light — was dazzling, and undeniably divine.

She freely offered an alluring walkway for all who trusted and stood her ground.  Her strength abided in unrelenting faith — sustaining her in times of deep despair.  Such anguish was often personified as heartrending upheavals deep within, or like a tightly clenched fist — a gripping aloneness hauntingly felt, and at other moments a recurring presence of dark forces seeking to diminish her.  Yet, with challenges lurking, she was securely held and sustained by a mystical Presence — a Presence fueling hope, and an awe-inspiring trust in what would someday come.

For both, it was a long, arduous journey.  But their hour of convergence finally came.  Odd at first, Water and Earth — Earth, so solid and steadfast;  Water — unsettled and often erratic.  One — unswerving, always receptive; the other — fluid and unpredictable.  Two so diametrically different — strangers at best.  It was obvious this first meeting was awkward, certainly incomplete, and beckoned for a rightful moment that would soon come to pass…

With night near — winds slowly subsided.  A rising moon lit Water’s now glassy surface — reflecting itself into a starlit sky.  Here, in serene stillness, Light for the first time spoke,

“Let not your contrasts discourage or dissuade you.  From all that I am I have birthed and sculpted you both — bringing fluidity and steadfastness into a single expression — a divine dance of sorts — a paradoxical pathway now your own.

“Water, draw near and couple with Earth’s enchanting edges — with each wave caressing, cleansing and renewing her.  Hold nothing back.  Be a gentle life force — yet, fiercely fuel and protect her capacity to bring forth life. Forever bow to, and uphold her innermost secrets and bitterest sorrows.  This is her holy womb, her chalice for intimacy and love.  Honor it always.”

“Earth, your inner poetry and wise presence is Water’s deepest longing.  Draw him to your sacred bosom, blessing him with your adoring warmth and enlivening words.  He has sojourned a lifetime for them.  And do remember, his rhythmic, pulsating tides will expose your deepest treasures.  Gems of truth, now gifted to him — enhancing his hope, healing and completeness.”

“You both are beautiful.  Together you will learn the seasons of change — the ebb and flow of life, the movement of giving and receiving, the glory of storm and stillness — always yielding, restoring, refining — bringing greater wellbeing to each other and to my creation.  You are my embodied expressions for a world in need of repair, continuity and love.  Be mindful that my plan is now yours; my Light, your light — electrifying the way.  Press forward.  Honor and enrich your ever merging love as you go — but always, first and foremost, showering that Love upon one another.  Your ‘journey of embrace’ is my plan realized — love actualized.”

As Light’s superlative wisdom took root, the souls of Water and Earth merged into inexplicable union.   Their newfound singularity spirited a love so intense, it blazed a pathway of hope and healing to all who neared or embraced its heat.
